Cross-Platform Trip Companion App for a Group Travel Agency

Overview

Built an iOS and Android trip companion app for a group travel agency so travelers on a shared tour could access their itinerary, group announcements, and emergency contact information from their phone instead of a printed packet. The tour guide can push real-time updates — a changed meeting time, a gate change, a weather-related schedule shift — directly to every traveler on the trip at once. This addressed a recurring problem for group trips: important last-minute changes not reaching every traveler in time because they relied on word-of-mouth or a bulletin board in the hotel lobby. The app works offline once itinerary data is downloaded, since travelers often lose signal in more remote destinations. We built an offline-capable iOS and Android trip companion app where tour guides push real-time updates to every traveler on a trip at once, with itinerary, group announcements, and emergency contacts accessible even without signal. We reviewed past post-trip survey complaints specifically about missed updates to understand exactly where communication broke down before designing the offline-first architecture. It was piloted on one group trip to a remote destination, the toughest real-world test, before rolling out to all group trips. Missed group meeting times caused by travelers not receiving last-minute schedule changes — a recurring complaint in post-trip surveys — are now eliminated, thanks to reliable offline access and instant guide-to-group broadcasts.
