Overview

Built an iOS and Android app for a physical therapy network that gives patients their home exercise program, complete with instructional videos, on their phone instead of a printed handout. Therapists assign exercises from a clinic-side dashboard, and patients log completion and pain levels directly in the app between visits, giving therapists visibility into adherence before the next appointment. This addressed a common problem in physical therapy: patients not following through on home exercises largely because printed handouts get lost or forgotten. The app also sends gentle daily reminders tied to each patient's specific program schedule. Patients frequently didn't follow through on home exercise programs because printed handouts got lost or forgotten between visits, and therapists had no visibility into adherence until the next appointment. We built an iOS and Android app where therapists assign exercises from a clinic-side dashboard and patients log completion and pain levels directly, giving therapists visibility into adherence before — not during — the next appointment. We shadowed therapist-patient sessions early on to understand exactly how programs were assigned and explained before building the assignment dashboard. The app was piloted with a small group of patients across two therapists, who gave feedback on video clarity and reminder timing before the wider rollout. Patient-reported home exercise adherence improved, and therapists now see adherence gaps before the next appointment instead of discovering them during it — letting them adjust programs proactively.
